Just let your server know that you are there for the Plates of Hope fundraiser. There are no fliers or coupons required, but we recommend that you take a copy of this email with you, so we can track the most effective tools for publicizing this new program. Each sponsoring restaurant also should have a bowl for cash contributions at their host/hostess stand in case you wish to make a personal donation. If you are unable to dine out but wish to contribute, you also can make a direct donation through the Chesapeake Gateway Chamber of Commerce by sending a check to the Chamber at 405 Williams Court, Suite 108, Middle River, MD 21220. Please indicate in the memo section that the donation is for Plates of Hope.

We also encourage you to share this information with your family, friends, co-workers and contacts to increase the success of this important fundraiser.

Why is this needed?

Eastern Baltimore County has over 1,000 homeless students this year, well above any other part of Baltimore County. BCPS’ Office of Pupil Personnel Services does what it can to help these students in need through Title I and grant funding. However, there are many items that these pupils need that are not covered by this funding. Here are just a few examples:

Covered by Current Funding

  • Physical education uniforms
  • Food
  • Fees to participate in general education programs
  • School supplies and musical instruments
  • Medical and dental services
  • Counseling and tutoring services
  • Fees for testing (AP, IB, SAT, ACT, GED)

Not Covered by Current Funding

  • School clothes and tennis shoes for PE
  • Items families need to establish housing, such as mattresses/airbeds, dishes, pots & pans
  • Any school activity not directly related to the academic curriculum, such as after school activities, prom and dance tickets and clothing, yearbooks, school rings
  • Field trips for clubs, sports and musical programs

ALL of the proceeds from Plates of Hope will be used to cover the needs of our local homeless students. Thank you, in advance, for your support.
